Outside Employment Policy
At Brandeis School of Law, we prioritize your academic success and professional readiness – especially in the critical first year of study.
First-Year Students
Because the first year of law school introduces new academic demands and methods of study, it is strongly recommended that first-year students do not engage in outside employment. Your first-year experience sets the foundation for your legal education, and we encourage students to devote full attention to coursework, skill development and adjustment to the law school environment.
Upper-Level Students
To maintain academic focus and comply with ABA standards, Brandeis School of Law prohibits full-time students from working more than 20 hours per week during any week of the semester. This applies to students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours across all University of Louisville courses, regardless of whether the credits count toward the law degree.
If you have questions about balancing work and school or want help navigating professional opportunities within these guidelines, the Office of Professional Development is here to support you.
Build Your Future with Brandeis
Brandeis Law is proud to support students who want more than a job – they want to make a difference. The Office of Professional Development helps students chart a course toward a legal career that aligns with their skills, values and ambitions. Whether in the courtroom, the boardroom or the community, our graduates are prepared to lead with purpose.
