Dual Degree Programs

Earn two degrees. Broaden your impact.

At the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, we believe the law doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Inspired by Justice Louis D. Brandeis’ interdisciplinary legacy, our dual degree programs allow students to expand their expertise and amplify their career possibilities – without adding years to their education.

Through partnerships with other University of Louisville schools and departments, students can earn both a Juris Doctor (JD) and a master’s degree in less time than completing each program separately.

How it works

To pursue a dual degree at Brandeis Law:

  • You must apply and be admitted separately to both programs.
  • Most students apply to the partner program before completing 45 hours of JD coursework.
  • You’ll graduate with both degrees simultaneously, once all requirements are met.

Important considerations:

  • During your first year of law school, you may only take JD courses.
  • No coursework completed before starting law school counts toward your JD.
  • Up to 9 credit hours from the master’s program may count toward your JD.
  • The number of JD credits that count toward the master’s degree varies by program.

Planning Your Path

Dual degree students should meet regularly with advisors from both schools to:

  • Develop a course plan and timeline
  • Navigate prerequisites and course sequencing
  • Stay on track for graduation

Some students may need to enroll in summer courses to meet both programs’ timelines. It’s your responsibility to monitor your progress and adjust as needed.
