At the Robert & Sue Ellen Ackerson Law Clinic, third-year law students step into the role of advocate—representing survivors of domestic and dating violence in Jefferson County Family Courts under faculty supervision. Students handle every stage of a case, gaining critical courtroom experience while supporting individuals in crisis.
This clinic is grounded in both service and skill-building, giving students the chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of survivors while developing essential lawyering skills.

The Ackerson Clinic provides free legal representation to eligible survivors of domestic and dating violence in Jefferson County. Our services are offered by trained law students working under the close supervision of licensed attorneys.
