The Brandeis Law community mourns the loss of former professor and alumnus David Leibson ‘69, whose decades of scholarship, teaching, and service left a lasting impact on the law school and legal profession.

A 1969 graduate of Brandeis School of Law, Professor Leibson later earned an LL.M. from Harvard Law School before returning to Brandeis, where he taught for 42 years, including 25 years as the Bernard Flexner Professor of Law.

Widely respected for his legal scholarship, Leibson authored two landmark legal texts — one on Kentucky tort law and another on the Uniform Commercial Code — both of which became leading resources in their fields. Generations of Brandeis students benefited from his intellect, mentorship, and dedication to legal education.

Professor Leibson will be remembered not only as a renowned scholar, but also as a devoted member of the Brandeis Law community whose influence continues through the many students, colleagues, and attorneys he inspired throughout his career.

Donations in Professor Leibson’s memory may be made to support a Brandeis School of Law scholarship established in his honor.
