Brandeis School of Law Technical Services Librarian Peter Scott Campbell has received the Hughes-Gossett Award from the Supreme Court Historical Society, recognizing the best article published annually in the Journal of Supreme Court History.

Campbell and co-author Lewis J. Paper earned the honor for their article, “Louis D. Brandeis on the Supreme Court: An Oral History,” which explores the legacy and influence of Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis through firsthand accounts and historical research.

As part of the award, Campbell and Paper were invited to the U.S. Supreme Court, where they were interviewed in the courtroom about their scholarship. Their discussion included research on Charles Tachau, a graduate of the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, Episcopal priest and civil rights activist who was also Justice Brandeis’ grand-nephew.

The Hughes-Gossett Award is presented annually by the Supreme Court Historical Society to recognize outstanding scholarship published in the Journal of Supreme Court History.

Campbell’s award-winning work highlights Brandeis Law’s enduring connection to the legacy of Justice Louis D. Brandeis and contributes to a deeper understanding of the individuals who shaped American legal history.
