The Brandeis School of Law offers an exchange program with the Faculty of Law at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. This partnership gives students the opportunity to experience legal education in one of Europe’s most influential cities, with access to courses in English and German.
Students may choose to participate during the Winter semester (October–February), Summer semester (April–July), or through the four-week Frankfurt Summer School (Legal Studies). Students can apply approved coursework toward their University of Louisville J.D., and gain invaluable insights into European Union law, international business, and comparative legal systems.
Tuition & Expenses
Brandeis Law students continue to pay regular tuition to the University of Louisville. There are no additional tuition charges from Goethe University, though some semester or administrative fees may apply. Students are responsible for their own airfare, health insurance, housing, and living expenses.
Frankfurt has a well-developed public transportation system, making it easy to navigate the city and surrounding areas without a car.
Eligibility & Application
Up to three UofL law students may participate in this exchange per academic year. Students must receive approval to transfer credits and ensure courses align with their academic goals.
To apply, contact Professor JoAnne Sweeny by the following deadlines:
- April 30 for the Summer School
- May 15 for the Winter semester
- November 15 for the Summer semester
