The University of Leeds School of Law offers Brandeis School of Law students an opportunity to study abroad in the north of England, in one of Louisville’s designated Sister Cities. Known for its vibrant campus life, strong academics, and excellent public transport, Leeds offers students a full semester or year-long exchange experience that broadens both legal knowledge and cultural perspective.
All classes at Leeds are taught in English, and students may enroll in select master’s-level modules at the law school. While participation does not result in a master’s degree, credits earned in Leeds may be applied toward your J.D. at the University of Louisville.
Tuition & Expenses
Students pay regular tuition at the University of Louisville and are tuition-free at the University of Leeds under the exchange agreement. Students are responsible for covering their own travel costs, health insurance, and personal expenses while abroad.
The University of Leeds provides student housing and helpful resources to estimate the cost of living in the UK. Students typically do not need a vehicle, as Leeds and the surrounding region are well connected by public transportation.
Eligibility & Application
Students interested in studying in Leeds should contact Professor JoAnne Sweeny early to plan and ensure eligibility. The application deadlines are:
- March 31 for Fall semester
- October 31 for Spring semester
Students may also be required to meet UK visa requirements depending on the length of stay.
